Sermon: Lavish Promises. March 12, 2025
This sermon was preached at Grace Lutheran Church (River Forest, IL) on Wednesday, March 12. You can watch the livestream recording and follow along in the bulletin. The image is Hospitality of Abraham (15th century, public domain).
This year at Lent, our midweek theme is “For You: The Promises of Christ.” We are trying some new things this year for Evening Prayer. You’ll notice that the space is arranged differently, moving people in closer proximity to one another. The setting includes compositions and adaptations by our Cantor, Pastor Michael Costello. I think everything worked wonderfully well, and I’m really looking forward to worshipping with the people of Grace each Wednesday. After worship, more than 20 people gathered in the Church Library to discuss where we saw connections between what we heard in worship and what’s going on in the nation and world these days. It is so important to gather together in places with space and grace to share and support one another.
There is no manuscript for the sermon. Give it a listen. It contains a joke that’s an all-timer. I hope it contains more than that, too.
