Carrying the Cross

“It is finished.” John 19:30
Normally at Grace we have three services on Good Friday. This year, however, we only had one due to COVID.
It had been a few years since I carried the cross in procession for Adoration of the Cross. It’s an odd feeling, having that heft upon your shoulder. I claim no insight into the suffering of Christ, but I was mindful as I carried the cross that he bore that weight and so much more.
The weight of sin and suffering, of shame and death. For you. For me. Thank you, Jesus.
We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you. By your holy cross you have redeemed the world.
Be well, friends. You are loved.
God of grace, thank you for your self-giving love. Thank you for Jesus, our Savior, who has redeemed this whole creation. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
