Out With the Old

January 1, 2021

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelation 21:4

Happy New Year! I’m going to post last night’s sermon in a bit, so not too much to add here. While I sometimes write this blog before sunrise, I’m not even going to beat sunset today. And that’s okay.

We stayed up too late last night, celebrating the New Year as it came to Nova Scotia, then New York, then Chicago. We even celebrated the New Year as it arrived in Denver! And then we slept in. Today has been joyously lazy. We watched Mary Poppins Returns (and yes, I had tears that needed wiping away; I love that movie). The kids are now watching Remember the Titans. We’re grazing our way through leftovers.

And that’s enough. Tomorrow it’s back into the swing of things. 2021 will not magically solve the problems of 2020. Still, there is cause for hope, hope that comes with rest for the soul. Today has been spent with the people I love the most. I hope and pray you’ve had a good day, too. Cheers to a much better year!

Be well, friends. You are loved.

God, all times and seasons are in your hands. Bless your church, your people, and this whole world in the year that has now begun. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Image: We dressed up last night, then Greta stole my fedora. I think she looks a bit like Debbie Gibson.
