“Rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” Luke 10:20b

Christmas vacation is here! Well, not so much for me. But Frau Lyle and our kids are finished for the year. No more social studies or vocabulary tests. No more math problems or recorder practice. Mo more late nights preparing for the next day’s German classes. No more reading and writing, except for pleasure. As you may be able to tell but the timing of this blog, we are leaning into the laziness of an easy Saturday morning.

While we slow down, God continues to work. We can stop writing out our schoolwork, but God continues to write the story of salvation. This Christmas will be different, but we will still celebrate the birth of the Savior by singing songs of joy. As you add your voice to the song, from your living room or kitchen table, rejoice that God has written your name in the Book of Life. In the indelible ink of baptismal water, your name is printed forever. Rejoice!

Time to play some board games!

Be well, friends. You are loved.

God, your story of salvation is the best ever written. Grant me a spirit of joy during this season. In the midst of so many losses, help me to remember the gift of grace that can never be taken away. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
