Filled for Righteousness

December 14, 2020

“He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.” 2 Corinthians 9:10

It was hard to get going this morning! While we are all thrilled to be back at Grace for one week of in-person learning before the Christmas holiday, we had gotten used to an easier rhythm over the last two weeks. Last night, our kids stuffed their backpacks full of everything that had to come back to school. Poor kids looked like overworked Sherpas this morning. The return to school also meant packing lunches, a necessary but unloved chore.

While I may not delight in providing food for my children in the early morning hours, our God never stops delighting in supplying our needs. Today’s New Testament verse from the Daily Texts reminds us that God is the One who supplies seed and bread, watching over both ends of the supply chain. Just as we pack lunches for our kids so that they’ll have the energy to learn and grow throughout the day, so does God feed us with a purpose. God’s intention for our daily lives is that we would continue to grow in righteousness.

As you eat your daily bread today, be mindful both of God’s generosity and God’s purpose for your life. Seek the Kingdom of God and its righteousness. Watch as God gives you everything needful.

Be well, friends. You are loved.

Giving God, you richly bless your people with all that we need. Thank you for the food we will eat today. May it nourish us with your righteousness. So filled, may we work to feed those who find themselves in any need or hunger. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
