“For dominion belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations.” Psalm 22:28
Today, Day 233 at the Dispatch, is Election Day. I don’t know that I have much to say in the early hours of the morning, but I have much to pray. Today, trusting in God’s mercy and grace, that’s enough.
So, a prayer for our nation on Election Day:
God, you are gracious and merciful. Bless our nation today that we might be a blessing to the world. Keep safe those who vote, those who are poll workers, those who count ballots. Preserve our democracy from those who would undermine it. Create peace in our hearts and peace in our streets. Grant wisdom to those who are elected, that they would work for the well-being of all people. Grant them a spirit of servanthood and humility. Bring all of us through this time of great division and into a future where we all yearn for true freedom and equality, a future in which we all work for the benefit of our neighbor. As today unfolds, give us patience and peace. Still our inward storms. As tomorrow dawns, may it do so with hope and the stirrings of unity. We pray humbly in the name of Jesus Christ, trusting in your mercy and grace. Amen.
Be well, friends. You are loved.
And don’t forget to vote!
