From Age to Age

August 25, 2020

“For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting and his faithfulness endures from age to age.” Psalm 100:5 (Lutheran Book of Worship psalm translation)

Today is the first day of school at Grace. In the midst of this pandemic, we have planned and prepared and prayed. We are ready to go. Some of our students are learning remotely to start the year. Most will be coming through our doors for in-person learning. It will be a school year unlike any other.

Or will it? Today is the first day of the 125th academic year of Grace Lutheran School. Grace has seen a lot of things, from world wars to depressions. We were around during the pandemic of 1918. While this year is full of challenges and anxieties, and while every year is unique, Grace has a history of meeting and overcoming challenges head on.

Even more, God has been faithful. From age to age, the Lord is good. God’s mercy flows and God’s faithfulness endures. God has been present at Grace, with grace, for 124 years. I have no doubt that God will be present for us this year, too.

In a little while, I will bring our three children to Grace, masked and ready. As of today, our family includes a sixth grader, a third grader, and a first grader (obligatory first-day pics will appear at some point on social media). I am grateful for Grace, where they will grow in faith, academics, and character. The Lord will bless them, and all students of Grace, throughout the course of this new school year. Whatever happens, God is with us. God has always been with us; some things never change. Have a great year!

Be well, friends. You are loved.

God of Grace, we ask your blessing upon Grace. Be with our students, faculty, and staff. Keep us safe and healthy. Open our minds to learn new things and our hearts to love one another. May this school year unfold to your glory, and Grace and wherever students and teachers learn and work. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
