A Theological Reflection for Easter Monday

April 13, 2020

“Jesus said to them, ‘Come away to a deserted place by yourselves and rest a while.” Mark 6:31

Theological reflection? I was just kidding. I’m going to spend the morning building LEGO sets with my kids.

Then again, that’s a pretty good theology for Easter Monday. The tomb is empty! Christ is alive! Set aside your work for a while, as best you can. Build something new in the world. Be with loved ones. Just be.

I think that’s enough for this morning. The demands of life, the weight of death, will return soon enough. But for now, I’m going to play. To celebrate life, to spite death, I’m going to play.

Alleluia! Christ is risen!

He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

Be well, friends. You are loved.

Lord of life, we thank you for Jesus, We praise you for his death and resurrection. We rejoice in the gift of life. Be present with those who mourn the deaths of loved ones today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
