“From him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever.” Romans 11:36

Paul reminds us that life is directional. While life’s vicissitudes are chaotic and confusing, God continues to move. All things come from God, and all things return to God. We are moving Godward.

On this day when we honor the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we are reminded of the universe’s inexorable movement toward justice. We celebrate that one day, by the grace of God at work in Christ, God’s dream for creation and all people will come to fruition. In the promise of that hope, we keep going. Godward.

Dr. King reminds us, “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.”

Let us keep flying, running, walking, and crawling our way toward justice, moving toward the God who has already come to us in Christ, whose Spirit is present with us now.

Be well, friends. You are loved.

God of justice, you call us to follow you. Help us to do so humbly, working together for the benefit of all humanity. We give thanks for Martin, and for all the saints in light. May we follow where they have trod. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
