The Sower

July 12, 2020

“And he told them many things in parables, saying: ‘Listen! A sower went out to sow.'” Matthew 13:3

Good morning! It’s Sunday and I’m on vacation so we’re going to keep this short. Today in worship we’ll hear the Parable of the Sower. Remember, before this parable says anything about soil, about you or me or anyone else, it says something about Jesus. The Sower goes out to sow. He casts the Word with profligate abandon. He does not wait for you to be good soil. He simply gives himself to and for you.

We pray to be good soil, but first we rejoice that God’s Word is cast far and wide. It lands even on us, no matter how dry and dusty our lives. Thanks be to God.

Alright, time to get ready for worship. Pastor Costello no doubt has an excellent sermon ready for us. The Word will be cast forth in proclamation. Listen!

Be well, friends. You are loved.

God of growth, prepare my heart to receive you Word. May my roots delve deep into your love. May my branches bring forth fruits of lovingkindness. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
